Three Rivers Conference Realignment

Recently on March 31st, the Three Rivers Conference (TRC) was notified by Tippecanoe Valley that they were intending to leave at the end of 2023-24’s school year. Tippecanoe Valley’s current plan is to form a six team conference with John Glenn, LaVille, Jimtown, Knox, and Bremen. As of now, all teams have notified their respective conferences that they intend to leave to form this new conference at the start of the 2024-25 school year.

On April 10th, conference bylaws give Tippecanoe Valley 3 options to choose from. Option 1 was to complete 2 years, which would keep Tippecanoe Valley in the TRC until the end of the 2025-26 school year. Option 2 was to be able to leave at the end of the 2024-25’s school year, and pay a conference fee of $1,000 to the other schools in the TRC by May 5th of 2023. Option 3 was to decline both options 1 and 2 and be dismissed from the conference at the end of this school year (2022-23). On April 19th, Tippecanoe Valley’s athletic director Mr. Sam Sturtevant chose option 3. On April 21st, Tippecanoe Valley said that they “stand firm in remaining in the TRC through the 2023-24 school year, and they would be leaving for a new conference in the 2024-25 school year.”-

On April 21st, the other TRC principals voted 8-0-1 to remove Tippecanoe Valley from the TRC taking effect at the end of this school year (2023-24).

With Tippecanoe Valley leaving the TRC next year, a search was made to find a team that wanted to join and keep the conference members at 10. As of April 25th, the Hoosier Conference made a press release announcing “Lewis Cass Jr/Sr High School announced that they will be leaving the Hoosier Conference at the end of the 2022-23 school year to join the Three Rivers Conference” –

This TRC madness comes along as the North Central Conference (NCC) is deciding to remove Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at the end of this school year (2022-23) due to travel issues, and Harrison West Lafayette and McCutcheon at the end of the next school year (2023-24) due to “conference restructuring.” Other conference changes include Covenant Christian leaving the Circle City Conference to join the Indiana Crossroads Conference in the 2024-25 school year and Cascade leaving the Indiana Crossroads Conference to rejoin the Western Indiana Conference in the 2024-25 school year. **
