Thanksgiving

It’s finally almost Thanksgiving! The one time of year where a person can eat anything they want and not feel guilty. Thanksgiving takes place on November 23rd, 2023, Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated in the United States. On Thanksgiving people celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year.  In Peru Community Schools we have Thanksgiving break on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. Thanksgiving break also leads into the weekend, so Peru students have five days off.

Peru High School student Lainey Stoner says, “I really like helping make the food and getting together with everyone. I also like that I can hang out with my brother whom I don’t get to see as much. I love getting to see my family, which I don’t get to see often. Being on break is awesome because I get to be home from school. Thanksgiving is just a good time.”

Around Thanksgiving people make all sorts of food such as turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and so much more! Food is a major part of Thanksgiving, but this holiday isn’t just about food, it’s about giving thanks and being grateful. Peru Community schools also does lunch for Thanksgiving on Wednesday the 15th. Peru Schools serves turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie, peaches, and milk.

 Peru High School teacher Jenni Korving says, “My favorite thing about thanksgiving is seeing my family and stuffing, I love the stuffing and pecan pie!”

Many people celebrate Thanksgiving by eating food or going on a trip. Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful, enjoy food, and spend time with loved ones!
