Weekly Sports Roundup 1/21/23 – 1/27/23

Girls Basketball: Peru hosted Eastern for a matchup with the Comets. Peru started out behind after the first quarter, 12-16. They quickly rebounded and fought back to lead 31-24 at halftime. Peru shut out Eastern for the rest of the game and coasted to a 64-30 win. Leading the Lady Tigers was #5 Emma Eldridge with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. #4 Brianna Bennett had 21 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. #22 Maddie Nordman had 4 points, 4 rebounds, and a block. #23 Addison Robbins had 4 points, a rebound, steal, and an assist. #2 Kaylene Kirk had 4 points. #10 Cameryn Raber had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. #30 Brooklyn Garner had 4 rebounds, and an assist and a block. 

Boys Basketball: Peru took on Whitko Wildcats in a conference matchup. Peru led all game, but the game was close during the 1st quarter 8-7. Peru was up 30-23 at halftime. The Tigers led 51-34 after the third, and won 63-48. Leading the Tigers was #2 Gavin Eldridge with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. #3 Braxten Robbins had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. #11 Matthew Roettger had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal and a block. #5 Alex Ross had 9 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and a block. #14 Xavier Turner had 6 points, a rebound, and a block. #0 Ian Potts had 3 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block. #10 Reis Bellar had 2 rebounds, and an assist. #15 Jaxson Manriquez only had a turnover, and #23 Isaac Braley did not pick up any stats.

Wrestling: Tiger wrestlers competed at sectionals, hosting 9 other area schools. Peru took 4th, and had 7 regional qualifiers. Kwynn Boggs qualified at 113 lbs, Brayden Gibson qualified at 120 lbs. Cooper Baldwin qualified and won the sectional championship at 138 lbs. Cody Legg qualified at 145 lbs. Alex Smithers qualified at 182 lbs, and Keyton Ousley qualified at 220 lbs. Trevi Hillman-Conley qualified and won the sectional championship at 285 lbs.

Gymnastics: Peru placed 3rd against Wawasee/Warsaw/Northwood. Nissa Jones placed 3rd on the vault. Peru scored 34.7 points overall.
