Weekly Sports Roundup 11/26/22 – 12/2/22

Girls Basketball: There were no girls basketball games this week. They travel to Kokomo this Saturday with JV starting at noon and Varsity starting at 1:30 PM.

Boys Basketball: 3A #5 Peru had one of the biggest games of the year at home versus 4A #14 Kokomo. The crowd was loud from the start of the JV game to the final buzzer of the Varsity game. They battled early with Kokomo’s 5 Star, 6’10” Flory Bidunga, keeping him at 7 points and keeping it close 10-13 after 1 quarter. Kokomo kept their pace while Peru fell back to a nine point deficit, 18-27 at halftime. Peru kept up with Kokomo all third quarter allowing 16 and scoring 15 to be down by 10 headed to the fourth quarter down 33-43. Foul ended up costing Peru, committing 10 fouls in the fourth quarter alone, and the Tigers took their first loss of the season 50-61. Peru was lead by Matthew Roettger with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Braxten Robbins scored 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Ian Potts scored 9 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. Gavin Eldridge scored 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Alex Ross scored 2 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist. Xavier Turner scored 1 point, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Reis Bellar scored 1 point and 1 rebound. Bryce Hill also played but did not accumulate any stats. Peru moves to 1-1.

Wrestling: The wrestling team took on Tippecanoe Valley for their first home match of the season. Peru had 9 wrestlers win compared to Valley’s 5. Peru won 54-21 and moved to 3-0 on the season.
