Peru captures TRC, Sectional Championships for 5th straight year
The season began in late July, with three days of three hour practices. Soon after school started, Peru hosted a scrimmage to get a feel for the season. A week later, Peru captured 3 wins hosting their Peru Invitational. That next week, Peru faced strong competition at the Western Invitational, but pulled through and won all three games and won the championship. Then, Peru played three matches in three days and won them to bring them to 12-0 on the year. After defeating Whitko, they moved into the toughest period of the season. After dropping the match versus a great Culver Military Academy 5-0, they moved onto the Kokomo Invitational. They dropped back to back matches versus West Lafayette and Delta, and picked up a win against the host school Kokomo. Peru took 3rd in the Kokomo Invitational. Peru picked up a big win versus Wabash 5-0, then took on a good Northwestern team and was defeated 2-3. They then moved to 16-4 on the season with a 5-0 victory over Marion. They then were defeated by highly ranked Westfield 1-4. They ended the regular season at 16-5.
After defeating Wabash, Peru clinched the TRC championship for the 5th straight year. Peru went into the Sectional strong, fighting hard in both matches, beating Lewis Cass and Wabash 5-0 to clinch their 5th straight sectional championship and moved to 18-5 on the season. They went into the Regional against Bremen, seeking revenge after being defeated in the Regional Championship last year, and defeated the Lions 5-0. Peru had made it back to where they were defeated last year in the Regional Championship. Peru took on Culver Military Academy in the Regional Championship on CMA’s home court, and were defeated 1-4. They ended the season 19-6, graduating Seniors Ben Beckman, Lucas Slagel, Jakob Gray, and AJ Rodriguez.
