Peru Runs Away With 61-7 Win Over Southwood
Peru hosted Southwood on Friday, and Peru also hosted their Senior Night. Peru got in the end zone quickly with a touchdown by Braxton Strong, and a second touchdown by Isaac Beam just a few minutes later. Joe Estrada scooped up an interception and gave the Tigers great field position for their third drive. Matthew Roettger threw another touchdown, this time to Brady Hahn. Peru’s defense once again held strong and got the stop to give the offense the ball back. Tanner Boggs ran 58 yards for the touchdown, extending Peru’s lead to 27-0 after the 1st quarter.
Matthew Roettger threw another touchdown pass to Braxton Strong for a 46 yard touchdown. Peru got another stop, then drove all the way down the field and allowed Liam Lancaster to line up as quarterback and dive into the endzone for a 1 yard touchdown. Southwood’s offense couldn’t get moving once again, and Peru once again drove down the field and Matthew Roettger threw another touchdown pass to Isaac Beam to give the Tigers a 47-0 lead going into halftime.
With a running clock starting in the 2nd half due to Peru leading by 35+, Southwood drove down the field and scored to cut Peru’s lead down to 40, 47-7. Peru took up the rest of the quarter to drive down the field and scored on a 3 yard touchdown by Alex Ross. Peru went into the 4th quarter with a 53-7 lead.
Both JV squads took the field, but Southwood still couldn’t get far enough down the field to score, while Peru drove down the field quickly with a 1 yard touchdown run by Isaiah Korba. Johuan Antunez threw the 2 point conversion to Lukas Ulrey to give Peru their final points of the game and the Tigers beat Southwood 61-7. Peru improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the TRC, and Peru still holds onto their 1st place spot in the TRC.
Peru will travel to North Miami on Friday October 6th for a battle with the Warriors. Peru is 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the TRC heading into this game while North Miami is 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the TRC. This will be the 9th meeting between these two teams, with Peru leading the series 6-2. Peru is ranked #9th in the AP Poll, and is now ranked #13th by the Indiana Football Coaches Association, while North Miami is unranked by both polls. John Harrell’s prediction has Peru beating North Miami 49-10. The Jeff Sagarin Ratings rate Peru 97th overall, 19th in 3A, and rate North Miami 271st overall, 40th in 1A.
Boys Tennis
Tiger Tennis Captures 6th Straight Sectional Championship
Peru took on Wabash on Thursday to battle against the Apaches in the 2nd round of the Sectionals. Peru won 5-0 with simple wins all around. Ian Potts won at 1S 6-4 6-0, Jayleb Walsh won at 2S 6-2 6-2, and Jackson Rogers won at 3S 6-1 6-1. Jacob and Jackson Boswell won at 1D 6-3 6-2, and Jadin Pallante and Lucas Musser won at 2D 6-3 6-4. Peru advanced to the sectional championship on Friday.
Peru hosted Manchester on Friday for the sectional championship. Peru battled hard and the results paid off, beating Manchester 4-1 to claim their 6th straight sectional championship. Ian Potts won at 1S 6-0 6-0, Jayleb Walsh won at 7-5 6-2, and Jackson Rogers won at 3S 6-0 6-0. Volleyball:
Lady Tigers Battle Hard Into End Of Season
Peru traveled to Logansport to battle against the Berries. Peru couldn’t capture the first set, losing 14-25, but came back for the 2nd set win 25-11. Logansport won the third set 25-20, but Peru won the 4th set 27-25. Peru and Logansport tied 2-2.
Peru traveled to Eastern to take on the Comets. Eastern won the 1st set 14-25, and ran away with the 2nd set 7-25. Eastern just knocked off Peru in the third set 23-25. The Eastern Comets beat Peru 0-3.
Boys Soccer:
Peru Splits Matches
Peru traveled to Taylor on Monday to take on the Titans. Peru and Taylor both scored goals in the 1st half to go in to the final half tied 1-1. Peru’s offense exploded during the 2nd half to give the Tigers the win 4-1.
Peru hosted rival Maconaquah on Wednesday to battle the Braves. Peru and Maconaquah both scored goals in the 1st half but couldn’t score any in the 2nd half. Maconaquah beat Peru in the shootout 0-3 to beat Peru 1-1 (0-3).
Girls Soccer:
Peru Keeps Up With Tough Teams
Peru hosted the Marion Giants on Monday. Marion struck first and scored the only goal in the 1st half to go into halftime with a 0-1 lead. Peru’s offense struck back with 3 goals to Marion’s 1 goal in the 2nd half to beat the Giants 3-2.
Peru traveled to Manchester on Wednesday to battle against the Squires. Manchester’s offense exploded to 5 goals in the 1st half, and scored 2 more in the 2nd half. Manchester beat Peru 0-7.
