Weekly Sports Roundup 1/7/23 – 1/13/23

Girls Basketball: The Lady Tigers hosted Delphi on Saturday on a 2 game win streak. They started out behind after the first quarter being down 4-9. They fought back during the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 15. Peru flew ahead during the 3rd quarter with a 29- 21 lead after the 3rd. Delphi couldn’t finish off a comeback and the Lady Tigers won and extended their win streak to 3 games and moved their record to 7-9. / The Lady Tigers hosted Manchester, looking to improve their win streak. They started off leading after the first quarter, but allowed a huge 2nd quarter for Manchester, and went into halftime down by 5, 22-27. Peru chipped away and stopped Manchester’s offense and went into the 4th quarter down by 1 point, 41-42. Peru stopped Manchester all 4th quarter and won 65-56, and the win streak rose to 4 games. Brianna Bennett led the Lady Tigers with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals, and a block.Cameryn Raber had 13 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Brooklyn Garner had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. Emma Eldridge had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 4 steals. Kaylene Kirk had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot. Addison Robbins had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Maddie Nordman had 2 points and 1 rebound. 

Boys Basketball:  Peru and Lewis Cass met at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the 3rd game of the Hoosier Hoopfest. The Tigers missed Xavier Turner with an illness and Bryce Hill and Reis Bellar stepped up. Peru and Lewis Cass stayed close during the 1st quarter with the Tigers just behind 9-10. The 2nd quarter was more of the same with Peru being down 18-21 at halftime. Peru held down Lewis Cass during the 3rd quarter and led 29-24 going into the 4th. Lewis Cass fought hard during the 4th quarter with lots of scoring to tie the game and send it to overtime with the score being 46-46. Peru couldn’t find any offense during overtime and lost 47-54. Leading the Tigers was #11 Matthew Roettger with a double-double of 20 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. #5 Alex Ross scored 8 points with 4 rebounds and 2 blocks, #2 Gavin Eldridge scored 6 points, with 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal. #3 Braxten Robbins had 5 points, 2 rebounds, an assist, and 2 steals. #0 Ian Potts had 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. #12 Bryce Hill had 4 points and a steal. #10 Reis Bellar had a rebound. / Peru and Maconaquah went at it for the 2nd time of the season, and it was an instant classic. The game was a total offensive explosion all game, with both Matthew Roettger and Bauer Maple scoring half of their teams points. Peru exploded out to a huge lead in the first, 26-13. Maconauqah started a comeback during the 2nd quarter and was leading by as much as 9 during the 3rd quarter, and after the 3rd Maconaquah led 50-56. Peru battled back during the 4th quarter and Maconaquah could find the answer in the last minute and Peru won 74-72. Leading the Tigers was #11 Matthew Roettger with 37 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals. #5 Alex Ross scored 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. #2 Gavin Eldridge had 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. #3 Braxten Robbins had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. #0 Ian Potts had 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. #12 Bryce Hill had 5 points, and an assist and a steal. #10 Reis Bellar saw the floor but did not accumulate any stats.

Wrestling: Peru took 2nd place while hosting the Peru Quad on Saturday. In round 1, they beat Rossville 53-24. In round 2, the Tigers dominated Bishop Chatard 72-12. In round 3, the Tigers fell to Oak Hill in a close matchup 35-42. / Peru hosted Maconaquah on the first day of back to back home duels. Peru started hot but it slipped away and the Tigers fell to Maconaquah to a score of 30-37. 6 Tiger wrestlers won out of 14 matches. / Peru had a dominant win over Lewis Cass to end the regular season at home for the Tigers. 10 Tiger wrestlers won out of the 14 matches played. Peru won by a score of 60-24.
