PHS student receives national art portfolio award

by: staff writer

Adam and I are VERY PROUD to announce that Peru High School had National winners this year!  We are extremely proud of our kids for their hard work, administration for their support, and our community for backing the Arts.  This year’s National winners are:  Haley Holycross–Silver Key, China Marker Drawing; Anna Boyer–Silver Key Portfolio, Ceramics; Christian Howell– Silver Key Portfolio and a Gold Key, Ceramics, and Rachel Campos–individual Gold key AND GOLD KEY PORTFOLIO!!!

More than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted by students in grades 7–12 this year. Receiving a National Medal places your student(s) within the top 1% of all submissions!  Moreover, for Rachel Campos’ Gold Portfolio, there were 14,000 Portfolios submitted nationwide and the Nationals ONLY pick 8…yes 8…Gold Key portfolios.

On top of that, Rachel Campos will receive $10,000 monetary award for her outstanding work!  This is only the 3rd time in 15 years that someone from Indiana has won a National Gold Key for portfolio (this is a HUGE deal).

Adam (Zweibel) and I (Mike Applegate) are obviously on cloud 9 and could not be more pleased with these kids and their accomplishments.  If you happen to see these kids please congratulate them, they have earned and deserve it.

Thanks once again to everyone who has helped with these kids!
